President's Day Weekend in Cle Elum, WA

What Would George Do?

Celebrating President's Day in Cle Elum

If you just felt the ground shake, don't worry; government agency employees just leapt in synchronic joy -- it's President's Day weekend, y'all!

For many, this means paid day off. For others it's an unusual surge in business. But for one special president, it's a day to celebrate.

Although his birthday was actually February 22nd, President's Day is a day to remember our first president, Mr. George Washington. We like to think we have an idea of how George would celebrate his big day in Cle Elum.

Explore the Outdoors
Pacific North-What?!

Having never journeyed this far west, George would have undoubtedly laced his boots and trekked along Cle Elum trails and explored outdoor amusements. He surely would have been thrilled to see the snow laden boxcars at the train depot in South Cle Elum (http://kittitashistory.com/sites/depot/), or the remnants of mine work on the Coal Mines Trail.

Browse for Antiques
You call these relics?

George would have enjoyed perusing the displays in Tuckaway Antiques, musing over items like record players and comic books. Perhaps he would have found an empty "tonic" bottle from his pre-president years!

Presidential Drinks and Debates

After a full day exploring shops on first street, George would probably be looking for a birthday drink and entertainment. He might stop at the Parlour Car for a "Washington Apple" or a cool dark ale to switch gears -- lucky Mr. President, he gets to now witness the spectacle of a presidential debate on TV!

That's a presidential birthday done right in Cle Elum. Show us how you would do Presidents' Day in town on Facebook and Instagram! #howwedocleelum
