This Is How We Do: What to do Today

The town of Cle Elum may be small but there is plenty to do, or as they say, "small but mighty." There are plenty of options around town for all interests from the outdoors to getting a buzz at wineries and breweries. So, grab some friends, your families or head out by yourself to explore Cle Elum.

Outdoors

Horseback Riding: Saddle up because with plenty of trails, horse parks and ranches, Cle Elum is a great place for you to test your horseback riding skills and bond with your horse.

Three Peaks Outfitters will provide trail rides to people looking to ride horses but don't have a horse of their own. There are options for basic, half-day and full-day trail rides depending on how long you think you can stay on a horse. And if you are looking for something even more rugged, why not try a guided camping trip? Your group will take a trail ride out into the woods and stay the night, cowboy style.

Washington State Horse Park is a park built for you and your horse to train and have fun while enjoying the beauty of nature. The park offers options for day-use, overnight camping and even options to host events at the park and it is open for everyone even without a membership. Riders can bring their horses and train on the numerous trails or in one of the many training areas found in the park. Does your horse need some pampering? Well, the horse park has you covered with washing stations and covered stalls. There are plenty of stalls and camping sites but the park does host large events throughout the year so make sure to check the website calendar before planning your visit.

Recreation: Cle Elum is surrounded by beautiful forests and mountains which means there are plenty of parks for you to enjoy. The state parks do require a Discover Pass to access them but you can get a year-long pass. These parks are perfect places for hiking, swimming, fishing and so much more.

Iron Horse State Park is a hiker's dream spot. With the Iron Horse trail running through the park and many others also crossing through there are plenty of different trails to enjoy just in case you get bored of the same trail. The trails are open for hiking, biking and even horseback riding; and if one day of hiking isn't enough for you there are campgrounds along the length of the trail for you to pitch a tent and rest for the night. From bird watching to rock climbing, this is a park for adventurers of all types.

Lake Easton State Park is a great place to bring your whole family for a camping trip or just a day of fun. This park is right on the lake which makes it a great place for those hot summer days. The lake is open for swimming, boating and freshwater fishing so there are plenty of options for you. But if spending time in the water is not your ideal day of fun, don't worry, because there are other things to do. There are trails for mountain biking, horseshoe pits and a basketball court, and kids will have fun too with the playground at the park.

Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest is another area perfect for recreation. The forest is huge so there are plenty of places to explore; and with trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding, fishing and hunting visitors will never be bored. If one day in the forest isn't enough, then you can reserve a camping ground and extend your stay.

Indoors

Wineries and Breweries: Crack open a bottle with your friends and enjoy the tastes of Central Washington with the local breweries and wine cellars found around Cle Elum.

Mule & Elk Brewing Co. is as local as it gets, with a name that even spells Cle Elum (backwards). This brewery features local beers and great service. Mule & Elk even brews some of their own beers which go over well with their fans. The brewery hosts events throughout the year and even though they aren't serving food right now don't let that stop you. Visit their website and find out what beers they are featuring right now. And if beer isn't for you, ask your server about their selection of ciders that they have on hand.

Swiftwater Cellars is the place for wine connoisseurs and people looking to relax with some beautiful scenery. With their in-house winemaker and locally sourced grapes, this winery celebrates the unique tastes created in Washington. Their facilities are family run and welcoming to all wine lovers. Swiftwater features a winetasting room and a restaurant which features an outdoor patio for guests who want to bathe in that Central Washington sunshine. Once you have gotten your fill of wine, you can enjoy some of the recreation activities that can be found here. Swiftwater has its own boutique and works closely with Suncadia Resort, so guests can enjoy a game of golf, fishing, swimming, and plenty more. There is even a spa at Suncadia if you want to reach the peak of relaxation.
