Leap Year in Cle Elum, WA

February 29th happens once every four years, so you might as well spend it on bizarre adventures! Cle Elum has a few unique attractions to make your leap-year day extra special.

Tire Rim Statue
This unique metal statue was welded by owner Pat Merritt in 2001 and has proven to be a go-to tourist attraction for years. After realizing that his large collection of unused tires were gathering dust, he decided to weld 50 together and prop it in his front yard. Take a drive past 2561 SR970 to sneak a peak of this tottering tire tower!

Whimsical Wheelbarrow Tower
What started as a small pile of old wheelbarrows eventually grew into a towering community-sourced wheelbarrow collection. The wheelbarrow tower was born from the Ristine family's original collection and grew into a unique local attraction. The tower is at 704 W. Second Street in Cle Elum, across from the Cle Elum City Park.

Railcar Bedrooms at the Iron Horse Inn Bed and Breakfast
Have you ever wanted to spend the night aboard a train? End your quirky leap-year day at Iron Horse Inn Bed and Breakfast and stay the night in an old-fashioned railcar! Iron Horse Inn was originally constructed in 1909 by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad and served as temporary housing for railroad workers until 1974. Now you can explore the railroad's history through historic photos, memorabilia and restored railcars! (www.ironhorseinnbb.com)
