First Town Water System | Cle Elum, WA

The first water system in town was installed in 1893 at an expense of some $19,000.

The source of the water supply was about 3 miles south of the city and the water was brought in by a 6 inch main that crossed the Yakima river on the county bridge.

For several years this system amply supplied the requirements of Cle Elum until around 1903 when the city outgrew the first plant. At that time it was decided to construct a new system with the Cle Elum river as the source of supply. This work was completed during the year 1907 at a cost of $50,000 using 18 inch mains to bring water into the city.
